‘Second Chance’ Workshops & Hiring Event in April

CareerSource NEFL Partners with Operation New Hope, FSCJ to Host ‘Second Chance’ Workshops & Hiring Event in April

To coincide with National Second Chance Month in April, CareerSource Northeast Florida(CareerSource NEFL) is hosting special workshop for job seekers facing barriers to employment from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 11 at the Gateway Career Center – located at 5000 Norwood Avenue, Suite 2 in Jacksonville.

Workshop topics include:

10a.m. – Work Readiness

11:30a.m. – How to Create a Resume

1 p.m.– Driver’s License Awareness (conducted by the Duval County Clerk of Courts)

In addition, CareerSource NEFL, Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) and Operation New Hope will host in-person Second Chance Job Fair from 10 a.m. to 1p.m. on Tuesday, April 30 at the Florida State College at Jacksonville’s Advanced Technology Center, located 401 W. State St. in downtown Jacksonville.

“Every year, more than 30,000 people are released from Florida prisons and face challenges when they attempt to reenter the workforce, among 650,000 Americans in similar situations nationwide,” said CareerSource NEFL Access Point Manager Dwaine Sweet. “Second chance workshops and job fairs help these men and women overcome barriers to employment, such as incarceration, by opening the door to gainful employment in Northeast Florida.”

While these events focus on assisting those with background issues that pose a challenge to employment, they are all open to the general public.

Second Chance Month underscores the significance of aiding individuals who have been involved in the justice system to redefine themselves and contribute to the development of more robust communities.
